Merton, as London’s first Borough of Sport, will be investing in sports facilities across the Borough over the next three years.
Wimbledon is the home of major sporting institutions AFC Wimbledon, AELTC, and the London Broncos, and Wimbledon’s proud sporting heritage has been enhanced in recent years by the town’s success in attracting new gym and fitness facilities. Last year, twice the number of these facilities opened in the town than the national average, earning Wimbledon the affectionate title “Gymbledon”.
During this panel, we examine how Wimbledon can maximise the opportunities presented by the Borough’s tenure as London Borough of Sport, and ways in which recreational sport is driving the revitalisation of retail.
